• It is used to prevent blood clots after heart procedures like stenting, peripheral vascular disease, heart attack and strokes.
• It is used to treat unstable angina or chest pain.

• If you are allergic to clopidogrel or other components of the Clopidogrel Tablet.
• If you suffer from a condition that causes bleeding like a stomach ulcer or bleeding inside the brain.
• If you have a severe liver disorder.

• Stomach pain
• Diarrhoea
• Indigestion or heartburn
• Abnormal bleeding or bruising

Other General Warnings

• You suffer from a blood disorder.
• You had a brain stroke or blood clot inside the brain.
• You have kidney or liver disease.
• You suffer from Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) - a condition causing fever and bruising under the skin, with or without tiredness, confusion, jaundice.
• You have an allergy to a particular medicine.
• You are undergoing surgery (dental procedures included).
• Clopidogrel Tablet is not recommended for use in children.

• Take Clopidogrel 75mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• It may be taken with or without food, though food may reduce stomach upset.
• Take it at the same time each day, usually once daily.
• Do not stop the medicine without speaking to your doctor, especially if you have a stent.
• Tell every doctor and dentist treating you that you take this medicine.

• Store at a cool and dry place away from direct heat or moisture.
• Keep it away from children and pets.

• Clopidogrel 75mg Tablet stops platelets clumping together, which prevents clots forming in narrowed or stented arteries.
• Never stop this medicine on your own, particularly after a stent, as the stent can clot suddenly.
• Take it at the same time every day, with or without food.
• Use a soft toothbrush and an electric shaver to reduce bleeding from minor injury.
• Seek urgent help for black or tarry stools, blood in vomit or urine, or a severe unexplained headache.
• Avoid ibuprofen, diclofenac and similar painkillers; paracetamol is usually safer.
• Ask your doctor about pantoprazole rather than omeprazole if you need an acid-reducing medicine.
• Tell every dentist and surgeon that you take this medicine well before any procedure.
• Avoid ginkgo, high-dose garlic, ginger and fish oil supplements without medical advice.
• Limit alcohol, as it adds to the risk of stomach bleeding.
• Carry a card or note stating that you take an antiplatelet medicine, in case of an accident.

Missed a Dose

• Clopidogrel 75mg Tablet contains clopidogrel, which is given as an inactive substance and converted by liver enzymes, chiefly CYP2C19, into its active form. This is why the medicine takes some hours to reach full effect and why other medicines affecting that enzyme matter so much.
• The active form attaches irreversibly to the P2Y12 receptor on the surface of platelets. This receptor normally responds to ADP, a signal released at the site of injury that makes platelets become sticky and clump together.
• With the receptor permanently blocked, the platelet cannot be activated for the rest of its life, which is about seven to ten days. Clots are therefore far less likely to form in an artery already narrowed by fatty deposits or recently treated with a stent, and this is what reduces the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Interactions with other medicines

• Sometimes medicine affects the way other medicines work, and other medicines affect how the medicine works if taken at the same time.
• Inform the doctor regarding the medicines, supplements or herbals you take or might take to avoid possible interaction.
• If you are taking medicines like other blood thinners like warfarin or anti-platelet medicines like aspirin, heparin, painkillers, medicines used for brain-related disorders like fluoxetine, anti-HIV medicine, etc as concomitant use of these medicines with Clopidogrel Tablet increase the risk of bleeding.
• Simultaneous use of antacids like omeprazole decreases the effectiveness of the Clopidogrel Tablet if taken along.
• Other medicines that must be used with caution are anti-cancer medicines, anti-diabetics, anti-epileptic medicines or anti-fungal antibiotics like fluconazole.
