Medical Description
Betnovate-GM Cream is a prescription skin medicine used to treat infected skin conditions. It is especially effective in controlling redness, itching, swelling, and irritation on moist or weeping skin surfaces. This cream works by combining three powerful ingredients: betamethasone, gentamicin, and miconazole that target inflammation, bacterial infections, and fungal growth.
The betamethasone in Betnovate-GM reduces swelling, redness, and itching by lowering inflammation in the affected area. Gentamicin is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria, while miconazole fights fungal infections and prevents them from spreading. Together, these ingredients provide quick relief from discomfort and help restore healthy skin.
Betnovate-GM cream is meant strictly for external use only. Apply it as directed by your doctor, usually in a thin layer over the affected skin. It should not be used continuously for more than one week unless advised otherwise, as prolonged use of steroid creams can cause side effects.
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, and share details of your medical history. This helps your doctor determine if Betnovate-GM is the right option for you and whether precautions are needed.
Some people may experience application-site reactions such as mild burning, itching, or irritation, but these usually subside as the skin adjusts. To prevent the spread of infection, keep the affected area clean and wash your hands after applying the cream. If irritation persists or worsens, consult your doctor promptly.
