Mupirocin
Description
Mupirocin is an antibiotic that works by inhibiting a vital enzyme within bacte
ria, which is essential for protein production. By stopping this process, the bacteria cannot grow or multiply, leading to their death. You should use this medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed. It’s important to complete the entire course of treatment, even if your symptoms improve, to make sure all bacteria are eliminated and to prevent resistance to the antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of bacterial skin infections. Mupirocin can cause side effects. Some common side effects include itching, redness, burning, tingling, or stinging sensation. In very rare cases, severe allergic reactions or skin reactions can occur, with signs such as a raised, itchy rash, swelling of the face or mouth, difficulty breathing, or collapse. If you experience any of these serious symptoms, stop using the medicine, wash it off, and seek immediate medical attention.
