- If you are allergic to Ceftriaxone, Cefuroxime, Cefprozil, Cefdinir, Penicillin or other antibiotics
- It should not be given to premature babies
Side effects of Ceftriaxone
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Blood cell disorder- decrease in white blood cells or platelets
- Allergic reaction like- fever, chills, rash, hives, breathing difficulty, swelling over your face, lips and throat
- Dark urine, pale or yellow skin
- Headache, dizziness
- Pain at the injection site
Precautions and Warnings of Ceftriaxone
Can I take Ceftriaxone during pregnancy?
This medicine is probably safe and can be used in pregnancy only if prescribed by your physician.
Can I take Ceftriaxone while breastfeeding?
This medicine passes into human milk in low quantities. It is probably safe to breastfeed but observe for symptoms of diarrhea in the baby.
Can I drive if I have consumed Ceftriaxone?
This medicine can cause side effects like confusion, feeling less alert or dizziness. If you experience any of these, don’t drive.
Can I consume alcohol with Ceftriaxone?
No known interaction.

- If you have liver or kidney problems or stones in your gall bladder or kidney
- Complete the course of the antibiotic even if you are feeling better after a few doses
- Not completing the course of antibiotic can lead to resistance
- If you get persistent diarrhea, immediately inform your doctor
- Never use Ceftriaxone in a premature baby or a newborn baby who has jaundice. The injection can be dangerous in a newborn baby when given along with medicines that contain calcium

Dosage of Ceftriaxone
In the case of overdose nausea, vomiting, diarrhea can occur. Seek emergency medical attention immediately if you overdose.
Missed a Dose
Avoid skipping doses, as this may increase your risk of developing an infection that may be resistant to antibiotics. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If the missed dose falls at the time of your next scheduled dose, then skip it. Do not take an extra dose to compensate for it.

Q: You must take medicine precisely the way it is prescribed by the physician. Follow the instructions mentioned on the prescription label. Do not alter the dose unless recommended by your doctor. Do not take it longer or shorter than advised. Skipping doses might make you prone to infections resistant to antibiotics. If you are advised it in injection form, you will be instructed how to inject it into your muscle or vein. You might need to use a liquid diluent to mix the powder before injecting it. Use the diluent that is recommended by your doctor. After diluting it, use the medicine within a stipulated number of hours or days, depending on the instructions. Use disposable needles and syringes. Do not share them with anyone else and dispose of the used needles and syringes as per the state law. If you are using other injectable medicines, flush the intravenous catheter well in between two injections.
