It is used to treat hyperactive thyroid gland in adults and children.
Contraindications
When should one not use Carbimazole
- Allergy to Carbimazole
- Allergy to thyroid medicines like Propylthiouracil
- If you have severe liver disease or blood disorder

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Carbimazole is chemically a Thioamide. It helps in decreasing the production of a hormone produced by the thyroid gland known as Thyroxine. Carbimazole blocks the synthesis of Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3).

- Blood thinners (e.g., Warfarin)
- Steroid medicine- Prednisolone
- Theophylline
- Erythromycin antibiotic
- Heart failure medicines like Digoxin, Digitalis
- High blood pressure medicines like beta-blockers - Propranolol, Atenolol, etc

Dosage
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting and headache. In the case of an overdose, seek emergency medical attention.
