Medical Description

Anti Thyrox Tablet is used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition in which the body produces an excess of thyroid hormones due to an overactive thyroid gland. It may also be used to restore the normal function of the thyroid gland before its partial removal by thyroidectomy and before and after performing radioactive iodine treatment. Anti Thyrox Tablet contains carbimazole an anti-thyroid agent. It works by reducing the production of thyroid hormones. It should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting Anti Thyrox Tablet.

Uses

  • Anti Thyrox Tablet is used for the treatment of hyperthyroidism (production of an excess of thyroid hormones).
  • It is also used before thyroidectomy (surgical removal of thyroid gland partially).
  • It can also be used before & after radioactive iodine treatment (used to treat hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer).

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to carbimazole or any ingredient of Anti Thyrox Tablet.
  • If you have or had blood-related disorders.
  • If you have problems with your liver.
  • If you develop inflammation of the pancreas accompanied by abdominal pain (acute pancreatitis).

Pregnancy

Anti Thyrox Tablet should be used with caution and regular dose should be reduced based on the condition of the patient. In a few cases, it may harm the baby. Discuss with your doctor about your condition.Untreated hyperthyroidism may increase the chances of malformation in the unborn baby. Hence, it's important to take the treatment of hyperthyroidism. You may be asked to stop this medicine a few weeks before the due date.Women of childbearing age should use a proper contraceptive while on this medicine.

Breast Feeding

Carbimazole passes into breast milk and if treatment with Anti Thyrox Tablet is continued during lactation, the patient should not continue to breastfeed her baby.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have a liver-related problem
  • You are pregnant or may be pregnant or are of childbearing age.
  • You are allergic to methimazole, propylthiouracil (medicines used to treat similar conditions).
  • You have swelling around your neck due to a condition called an intrathoracic goitre. Discuss with your doctor if you have a history of bone marrow suppression. A regular blood count should be performed.
  • You experience sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever, bruising or bleeding immediately contact your doctor.

Directions for Use

  • Anti Thyrox Tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor.
  • Swallow it whole with a glass of water, do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • It would be best if you took it at a fixed time for optimal results.
  • You should not consume it more than that prescribed by your doctor.

  • Medicine used to treat heart conditions such as digitalis and medicines from class beta-blockers (atenolol, propranolol) need to be taken along with this medicine requires dose adjustment.
  • Blood thinners should be used with caution with this medicine and it requires regular monitoring of blood clotting parameters.
