Cefpodoxime proxetil+Clavulanic acid is a combination medicine. It is used to t
reat infection of the urinary tract, lungs, airways, sinus, throat and windpipe. Cefpodoxime works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria by interfering with the cell wall and clavulanic acid helps in maintaining the optimal levels of cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime proxetil+Clavulanic acid is available in the form of tablets, capsules, syrup, suspension, oral drops, dry syrup and dry suspension. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting Cefpodoxime proxetil+Clavulanic acid.

When should one not use Cefpodoxime Proxetil+Clavulanic Acid
- If you are allergic to cefpodoxime proxetil, clavulanic acid or similar medicines like cephalosporin class of antibiotics.
- If you have problems with your liver or kidney.
- If you have fits
- If you have an infection that is caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile.

Mode of Action of Cefpodoxime Proxetil+Clavulanic Acid
How Does It Work?
- Cefpodoxime controls the growth of bacteria and kills them by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. However, the bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases) that can destroy Cefpodoxime.
- Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps Cefpodoxime to function optimally.

Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Cefpodoxime proxetil+Clavulanic acid works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.

- Especially if you are taking medicines to treat gout or are taking other medicines like cyclosporine, cisplatin, indomethacin, etc.
