Medical Description

Zocef 500 injection is used for the treatment of severe infections of the skin, ears, throat, respiratory tract, urinary tract, etc. It is an antibiotic containing Cefuroxime as its active ingredient. This medicine will be given in the hospital by your doctor or nurse as an injection. Do not self-inject this medicine. You may experience some application site reactions as side effects while on treatment with Zocef 500 injection, but they normally fade away with time. Please report to your doctor if you notice the side effects persist or worsen.

Uses of Zocef 500 Mg Injection 1

  • Severe infections of tonsils, throat, sinus, ears
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Bloodstream infection
  • Inflammation of the protective layer of the brain and spinal cord
  • Genital organ infection in male and females (gonorrhea)
  • Infection of urinary tract
  • Infections of the skin, soft tissue

Contraindications of Zocef 500 Mg Injection 1

  • If you are allergic to Cefuroxime or any of the other ingredients of Zocef 500 injection.
  • If you have a history of a severe allergic reaction to Penicillin, Monobactams, Carbapenems or other Beta-Lactam antibiotics.

Side effects of Zocef 500 Mg Injection 1

  • Injection site inflammation that forms clot or block in the vein
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Raised liver enzyme or white blood cells
  • Increased chances of fungal infections

Pregnancy

Other General Warnings

  • You develop white patches in your mouth.
  • You have any problems with your kidneys.
  • You develop rash with blisters and peeling of the skin.
  • You experience continuous diarrhea. Immediately stop taking it and report to the hospital.
  • You experience difficulty in breathing, rashes, swelling of the face or mouth after using Zocef 500 injection.

How Does It Work?

Cefuroxime in Zocef 500 injection works by stopping bacterial cell wall synthesis. The absence of a bacterial cell wall results in the death of bacteria.

  • Zocef 500 injection will be given in the hospital by your doctor or nurse.
  • Do not self inject this medicine.
  • Follow any instructions suggested by the doctor or nurse during the procedure or for aftercare.

Interactions with other medicines

  • It can cause the failure of contraceptive pills (OC pills). If you are taking the contraceptive pill while you are being treated with this medicine, you also need to use a barrier method of contraception (such as condoms)
