Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Cefuroxime is available in the form of a tablet, capsule, syrup, suspension, oral drops, oral liquid, dry syrup, dry suspension, dry vial, injection.

Yes, Cefuroxime is an antibiotic medicine.

No. Cefuroxime is an antibiotic, and it only works against infections caused by bacteria. Colds and the flu are caused by viruses, so this medicine will not help. Using it for a viral infection can lead to antibiotic resistance, making it less effective when you truly need it.

If you are allergic to penicillin, you may also be allergic to Cefuroxime (this is called a "cross-reactivity"). It is critical to tell your doctor about any penicillin allergy before starting Cefuroxime.

Call for emergency medical help right away if you experience signs of a serious allergic reaction: Rash, hives, or severe itching. Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Difficulty breathing or wheezing. Severe, watery, or bloody diarrhea (which may occur even two or more months after treatment). Returning fever, sore throat, or chills (which could signal a new infection).
