Medical Description
Trofev capsule is used to treat a rare lung disease known as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). It is also prescribed for specific forms of lung cancer in combination with another anticancer medication called docetaxel. The active ingredient in Trofev capsule is nintedanib, which works by reducing the activity of certain enzymes called tyrosine kinases that contribute to fibrosis (scarring), thereby helping to slow the scarring of the lungs.
For optimal results, take Trofev capsule with food at the same time every day. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage and schedule for you, which may be adjusted as necessary. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully, as improper use or an overdose can lead to serious side effects. Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor, even if it takes weeks or months to notice any benefits.
A very common side effect of this medicine is diarrhea. It is essential to drink plenty of fluids and consult your doctor if symptoms persist. Other common side effects may include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, weight loss, high blood pressure, and headaches. Your doctor may also order blood tests to monitor your liver function.
Before starting Trofev capsule, inform your doctor if you have any bleeding problems or issues with your liver or kidneys. Additionally, please inform your healthcare team about all other medications you are taking, as many can interact with this medication. Trofev capsule is not recommended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. To prevent pregnancy, both male and female patients are advised to use effective contraception during treatment.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Trofev capsule works by inhibiting the action of tyrosine kinases, an enzyme involved in the development of lung fibrosis. This enzyme is also involved in the process of forming new blood vessels in tumour cells.
- By inhibiting these enzymes, this medicine can help slow down scarring and the progression of cancer.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Certain medicines can affect the way the Trofev capsule works, or this medicine itself can interact with the action of other medicines taken concurrently.
- Therefore, it is essential to inform your doctor about all the medications, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking or may take in the future.
- In particular, if you are taking a blood thinner, additional monitoring is required as Trofev capsule can increase the risk of bleeding.
- Concomitant administration of anti-infective medicines such as erythromycin and rifampicin; medicines for brain-related disorders such as phenytoin, carbamazepine and St. John’s wort should be avoided.
