Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

The Trixide tablet has two active ingredients, Chlordiazepoxide and Amitriptyline. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine class of medicine. It increases the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is a chemical messenger. GABA reduces the excessive action of nerve cells in the brain. It also blocks stomach acid production and lowers the anxiety associated with this disease. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant medicine. It works by lowering the reuptake of chemical substances like noradrenaline and serotonin, neurotransmitters present at the end of the nerve cells in the brain. This makes the effects of these substances last longer. Thus, Trixide Tablet helps regulate mood and aids in the treatment of depression. It relieves neuropathic pain by blocking the pain signals from the brain.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Do not use other antidepressant medicines like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, etc., with Trixide tablets. This combination can increase serotonin levels and cause serotonin toxicity, leading to severe side effects and even death.
  • It is better not to take other medicines that cause drowsiness, such as antihistamines (cetrizine), cold and cough medicine, opiates or narcotic pain relievers (codeine, tramadol), muscle relaxants, etc., with Trixide tablets. These medicines can increase the side effects of Trixide tablets and cause extreme drowsiness.
  • It can be dangerous to use anti-anxiety and mood disorder treatments, such as linezolid, moclobemide, selegiline, etc., along with the Trixide tablet, as it can cause severe reactions. They inhibit serotonin metabolism and can result in serotonin levels that are high enough to cause Serotonin Syndrome, which can lead to life-threatening symptoms.
  • If you have any known bleeding issues or take blood thinners, use caution when taking Trixide tablets, as this medicine increases the risk of bleeding in such persons.
  • If you are already using antiepileptic medicines for seizure disorders, inform your doctor as these medicines can increase the side effects of Trixide tablets.
