Medical Description
Tapal Er 50mg tablet is used to treat moderate to severe acute pain for the short term (such as pain from an injury). It is composed of Tapentadol 50 mg. It belongs to the class of drugs called opioid or narcotic painkillers. It stops pain signals from the brain and regulates the chemical messenger, which results in reducing the pain.
The Tapal ER tablet is usually used to treat pain that begins suddenly, that has a specific cause, and it is expected to go away after the cause of the pain is heard. This tablet can also be used to treat severe neuropathic pain caused by nerve damage. It can also be used in conditions like toothache, fever, period pain, cold. Etc.
Do not take this medicine without the recommendation of the doctor. Tapal ER tablets can form physical and mental drug dependency, even with regular doses, primarily if used for a long duration. Therefore, the dose and duration of this medicine should be monitored.
Do not give this medicine to children without consulting your doctor. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding without consulting your doctor, do not take this medicine. Do not drink alcohol with this medicine.

Contraindications
Do not take Tapal Er medicine if you have the following condition without informing your doctor.
If you are allergic to a component of this tablet.
If you have any brain disorder like seizures, head injuries, tumours, etc
If you have been using medications for mood disorders or depression.
If you have severe stomach and intestinal problems like blockage, infection, paralytic ileus, constipation, etc.
If you have a history of drug or alcohol dependency.
If you have severe respiratory problems like asthma, sleep apnea, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder)
If you have acute kidney or liver impairment like chronic liver diseases
If you have epilepsy or seizure disorder.
If you are using medications for high blood pressure

Directions for Use

Overdose
- Tapal ER tablets overdose can cause abdominal pain, dizziness, fainting, vomiting, seizures, low blood sugar, sweating, cardiac arrest, lethargy, low blood pressure, yellow skin, confusion, and coma. In case of this medicine overdose, seek immediate medical treatment from the nearest medical centre.
Missed a Dose
Try to take this medicine as prescribed. If you have missed a dose of Tapal ER tablets, you can take it when you remember it. But, skip the missed dose if it's already the time for the next dose. Do not take both at a time, as it can lead to overdose.

How Does It Work?
The Tapal ER tablet is composed of tapentadol. It is an opioid or narcotic analgesic (pain reliever). It has a dual role of mechanism of action. It blocks the “mu” or opioid receptors, which helps block the brain’s pain signals. These pain receptors do not reach the site of the injury. It also blocks the reuptake of norepinephrine, a chemical messenger in the body. It results in increased levels of norepinephrine, which also helps in lowering the pain.

- Interaction with other medicines
- Do not take the Tapal ER capsule with other opioid pain medications, as they can cause serious adverse effects.
- Do not take a Tapal ER tablet with antidepressants like linezolid, naltrexone, methylene blue, etc. They can cause increased side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, tremors, lethargy, vomitings, etc.
- Do not take it with antihistamines like cetirizine, diphenhydramine, as they can increase the effects of drowsiness.

- Do not drink alcohol with this medicine. Drinking alcohol while taking Tapal will increase the risk of experiencing serious and life-threatening side effects.
