Medical Description

The composition of Sotret 30mg Cap contains isotretinoin, a form of vitamin A which is used to treat acne.

Uses of Sotret 30mg Cap

  • To treat severe forms of acne known as cystic or nodular acne that has not responded to treatments of other medicines like benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, tetracycline or minocycline.
  • Isotretinoin is also used in cases of skin cancer.

Contraindications of Sotret 30mg Cap

  • Avoid taking Sotret 30mg Cap if you are planning a pregnancy or you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If you are a woman of child-bearing age and not using contraception, do not take this medicine
  • Avoid this medicine if you are allergic to isotretinoin
  • You have liver disease
  • You have children less than 12 years of age
  • You have high lipid levels in your blood
  • You have hypervitaminosis A, or
  • If you are on antibiotics like tetracyclines

Can I take Sotret 30mg Cap during pregnancy?
No, you should not take this medicine if you are pregnant. Studies have shown that this medicine can cause serious birth defects in the foetus.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Sotret 30mg Cap while breastfeeding?
No you cannot take this medicine while breastfeeding. The medicine can get transferred to the baby via your breast milk which can be harmful to your baby.


Can I drive if I have consumed Sotret 30mg Cap?
This medicine is known to affect vision and also cause drowsiness and dizziness. Drive carefully at night as this medicine can also affect your night vision.


Can I consume alcohol with Sotret 30mg Cap?
Alcohol consumed along with this medicine can cause nausea, vomiting and increased heart rate. It is therefore not advised to take this medicine with alcohol.

A woman of child-bearing age must strictly use contraception while taking this medicine as it can cause serious harmful effects to the unborn baby. Avoid planning pregnancy for a few months after stopping the medicine as some amount of the medicine remains in your body even after stopping treatment. If you experience symptoms of depression or aggressiveness, mood swings, thoughts of hurting yourself or ending your life, consult you physician immediately. This medicine can also increase your blood cholesterol levels or liver enzymes. Apply a moisturiser while taking this medicine as it can cause severe dryness of skin. Isotretinoin causes sunlight sensitivity, hence avoid sunlight while using this medicine. Stop the medicine immediately if you experience headache or vomiting. Rush to the emergency medical department.
