Medical Description

Scatek soap is a topical medicine used to treat scabies, a skin condition caused by mites that burrow into the skin and cause itching. It contains two active ingredients: cetrimide, which acts as an antiseptic and cleansing agent, and gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane), which kills the mites and their eggs.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not apply to broken or severely damaged skin (such as severe eczema, psoriasis, or burns), as the medicine may absorb too quickly into the bloodstream. Do not use on the face, eyes, or mucous membranes unless specifically advised by your doctor. Avoid use if you have a history of seizures or epilepsy, as this medicine can trigger convulsions in some people.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy. Your doctor will weigh the risks and benefits before prescribing this medicine.

Breast Feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use while breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Consult your doctor before using this product if you are a nursing mother.

Driving

This medicine is for external use only and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Alcohol

Alcohol use does not interact with this medicine when applied externally.

Directions for Use

For external use only, apply on healthy skin free from cuts and wounds. Wash the affected area with mild soap and water, then dry completely before application. Apply a thin, even layer of Scatek soap over the entire affected area and leave it on for 8 to 12 hours (or as directed by your doctor). Wash off thoroughly with clean water. Generally, one application is sufficient; if a second treatment is needed, wait at least 7 days. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Storage and disposal

Store Scatek soap in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the temperature between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Store out of reach and sight of children.

Quick Tips

Wash all clothing, bed linens, and towels used in the past 48 hours in hot water (at least 60 degrees Celsius) and dry on high heat
Treat all close household contacts and sexual partners at the same time, even if they show no symptoms
Keep fingernails trimmed short and clean to avoid scratching and causing secondary infections
Avoid scratching the affected area, as this can cause infections
Do not share towels, combs, or clothing with others during treatment

Overdose

If you accidentally swallow this medicine or apply it over a very large area of the body, or if it is used excessively or left on the skin for too long, seek immediate medical attention. Overdose may cause dizziness, seizures, or central nervous system symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

Since this medicine is applied as a single or occasional treatment rather than a regular daily dose, missing a dose typically means you have delayed the application. Apply it as soon as you remember, following your doctor's instructions. If it's almost time for the next application (if a second treatment was planned), skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply a double amount to compensate for the missed application.

How does this medicine work?

Cetrimide disrupts the cell membranes of microbes on the skin surface, cleansing the affected area. Gamma benzene hexachloride penetrates the outer shell of mites and lice, targeting their nervous system to cause their death.
