Risperdal 2 MG Description

Risperdal Tablet is used for the treatment of psychotic disorders like Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. Managing irritability in autistic children, manic episodes, etc., are other uses of Risperda

l Tablets. All these psychiatric conditions affect the person's ability to think, feel and behave correctly. This medicine may be prescribed alone or with Lithium or Valproate to treat bipolar disorder in adults. But it is prescribed alone in children and adolescents. The Risperdal Tablet has Resperidone as a single active ingredient. It belongs to a class of atypical antipsychotic medicines. The Risperdal tablet acts by stabilising the levels of certain chemical messengers, which help manage the mood and lower the overactivity in the brain. Follow your doctor's direction for use of Risperdal tablets. This medicine can cause death in elderly patients with memory loss associated with psychotic disorders. It can also cause suicidal thoughts in young adults. Try not to stop using Risperdal medicine suddenly as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like irritation, vomiting, sweating, etc. It is not a habit-forming medicine and does not cause dependency.

Uses of Risperdal 2 MG

  • As per USFDA, Risperdal Tablet is an atypical antipsychotic medicine indicated for:
  • Treatment of Schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (manages both positive and negative symptoms like hallucination, delusions, lack of pleasure, memory problems, cognitive problems, etc.)
  • Short-term treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with Bipolar Disorder in adults, children and adolescents aged 10-17 years
  • The treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents aged 5-16 years

Contraindications of Risperdal 2 MG

  • If you are allergic to the risperidone component of Risperdal Tablet.
  • If you are an elderly patient with dementia-related psychosis. There is an increased risk of death.
  • If you are under treatment with other antipsychotic medication.
  • If you have neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a neuromuscular disorder).
  • If you have tardive dyskinesia (sudden jerky movements).
  • If you have diabetes and uncontrolled glucose levels.
  • If you have a tumour on your adrenal gland (a condition called pheochromocytoma), or if you have been diagnosed with 'a prolactin-dependent tumour'. This medicine can increase prolactin levels.
  • If you have a history of seizure disorder.
  • If you have a low white blood cell count (leukopenia or neutropenia).
  • If you are using treatment of Parkinson's disease or dementia with Lewy bodies.
  • If you have an adrenal gland tumour, this medicine can cause life-threatening high blood pressure.
  • If you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy.
