Medical Description

Restyl Tablet is an antianxiety medicine. It belongs to a group of medicines called benzodiazepines or tranquillisers. Restyl Tablet is composed of alprazolam. It relieves the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks by producing a restful state of mind without interfering much with regular mental and physical functions. Anxiety needs to be treated when it is excessive and out of proportion to the situation, causing discomfort to an individual and impairs daily routine activities. Restyl Tablet is commonly used to treat anxiety associated with depression as it elevates your mood. It is sometimes used as a hypnotic(induces sleep). The dosage and duration of Restyl Tablet should be prescribed by your doctor. Restyl Tablet should be taken orally with or without food, preferably at the same time daily. It can develop dependence hence the lowest required dose should be used. Stopping the medicine all of a sudden can result in withdrawal reactions like fits (convulsions). The doctor will slowly taper the medication.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Restyl Tablet is composed of alprazolam, a group of medicines called benzodiazepines or tranquillisers. It is a potent anxiolytic and a mild CNS depressant. In simpler terms, it reduces the brain's activity producing a restful state of mind. It preferentially acts on two sites in the midbrain- reticular formation (maintains wakefulness) and limbic system (centre for thoughts and emotions). The effects are mediated due to a naturally occurring substance in the brain called GABA(gamma-aminobutyric acid). There’s an increase in the permeability of chloride ions in the neuronal(nerve) membrane, thereby enhancing the effects of GABA. GABA normally has inhibitory effects in the brain. The result is sedation(sleep induction), suppression of seizure activity(fits), relaxed muscle tone and relief from anxiety.
