Medical Description

OCUPOL DX eye drop is an antibiotic and steroid combination used for certain bacterial eye infections with inflammation when prescribed by an eye specialist. Its active ingredients are polymyxin b, chloramphenicol, and dexamethasone.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use it for an untreated viral, fungal, or mycobacterial eye infection, including herpes simplex infection, unless an eye specialist directs you to. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an eye ulcer, or recent eye surgery.

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Chloramphenicol and polymyxin b stop the growth of susceptible bacteria. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation in the eye. The combination does not treat viral or fungal eye infections.
