Description
Nildep Tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as tricyclic antidepressants. It is primarily used for the treatment of depression. Nildep Tablet contains Imipramine as an active ingredient. It w
orks by affecting the levels of certain chemical messengers in the brain, which help stabilise the mood of the affected person. Depression is a severe mental disorder in which a person's ability to think, feel and behave is seriously hampered. By virtue of its effect on the chemical messengers, this medicine helps the person feel better.

Uses
- Depression
- Treating bedwetting in children six years and above.
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to the medication.
- If you have Schizophrenia.
- If you have suicidal tendencies.
- If your thyroid gland is overactive.
- If you have acute angle-closure glaucoma (wherein the pressure inside the eye is increased due to blockage in the fluid drainage).
- If you have a history of a recent heart attack (less than one month).
- If you have alcohol intoxication.

- Blurring of vision
- Dryness of mouth
- Difficult urination
- Constipation
- Postural hypotension( sudden drop in blood pressure from lying down to standing position.
- Sexual dysfunction.

- You feel sudden changes in your mood, behaviour or develop suicidal tendencies.
- You have deranged liver function tests as this would require dose adjustments.
- You have to undergo any surgery in future, as this medicine needs to be stopped well before any surgery.
- You have bipolar disorder, as symptoms of mania may aggravate further.

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use
- Take this tablet with a glass of water as a whole.
- It can be taken with or without food.
- Do not try to break the tablet or chew it.
- Take it for as long as you are advised. Do not decrease or increase the dose on your own, use it as per the directions from your doctor.
- Do not abruptly stop taking this medicine, leading to withdrawal symptoms.
- Your dose needs to be modified or gradually decreased before discontinuation.
- Preferably you must take the medication at bedtime as this can make you feel drowsy.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- MAO inhibitors (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors) like Selegiline, interact with Nildep, as both increases, the level of serotonin which can be life-threatening (this can lead to "serotonin syndrome", which is a life-threatening condition)...
- Low dose aspirin increases the blood levels of Imipramine and can lead to toxicity.
- Aripiprazole (an antipsychotic medicine), if taken with Imipramine, can increase the side effects like drowsiness, increased sweating, dry mouth, Blurring of vision etc.
- Rifampicin (a medicine used in the treatment of tuberculosis) can decrease the blood levels of Imipramine due to increased metabolism through a process called enzyme induction)
