Medical Description

Lioton 500 Gel is an anticoagulant that contains Heparin as its primary ingredient. It is used to treat post-injection superficial thrombophlebitis by applying it to the skin (inflammation of a vein due to a blood clot). It reduces pain and swelling while speeding up the production of blood clots. The formation of blood clots results in obstruction of one or more veins, generally in the legs. Lioton 500 Gel prevents blood clots from forming near the skin's surface. It dissolves clots and increases blood flow, which relieves pain and inflammation. This cream is for external use only. The course of treatment should be completed for best results. Side effects like itching, irritation, and dryness can be observed but are usually temporary. If these side effects do not go away, consult your doctor.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Lioton 500 Gel is a blood thinner. It is an anticoagulant that contains Heparin as an active ingredient which instantly penetrates sick tissue without leaving residues or degreasing the skin after application. This aids in strengthening and supporting connective tissues, reducing discomfort and speeding up the healing process. Cofactors, such as fibrin and thrombin, are inhibited by this medication. It binds to the enzyme inhibitor Antithrombin-III, causing conformational changes that result in activation by increasing the flexibility of the enzyme's reactive site loop. Antithrombin is then produced, which disables thrombin and factor Xa, essential in blood clotting.
