Medical Description

Largactil 50 mg is a medicine used to manage symptoms of severe mental illnesses caused due to psychotic disorders. It contains chlorpromazine that belongs to the group of antipsychotics. This medicine acts by blocking the sites of certain chemicals in the brain and has a calming effect on the brain. It controls aggressiveness and produces behavioural changes related to thoughts and perception. It also acts on several other centres in the brain and can be used to control symptoms such as vomiting, hiccups, and itching. Largactil 50 mg is not safe for elderly people with dementia. It is not advised for children under one year of age.

Breast Feeding

Directions for Use

  • Largactil 50 mg tablets are to be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
  • Swallow the medicine whole without crushing or biting on it.

  • Take the tablet around the same time every day.

  • Symptoms of an overdose of Largactil 50 mg may include excessive sleepiness, fast and irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, fainting, uncontrollable jerky movements, restlessness, fits, dry mouth, muscle spasm, severe constipation, cramps in the stomach, difficulty in breathing, and coma. Call your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed a dose of Largactil 50 mg tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. You should not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.

Largactil 50 mg tablets work by blocking the sites of a chemical in the brain called dopamine. This results in removing the excess amount of hormones from certain areas in the brain, thereby having a calming effect and reducing the aggressive state in severe mental illnesses.
