Medical Description

Flurbiprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine given as eye drops to help prevent the pupil from narrowing during eye surgery. It also helps reduce the inflammation and pain that can occur around the time of eye surgery. It works by blocking prostaglandins, natural substances in the body that trigger inflammation and pupil narrowing.

Contraindications

Directions for Use

Instill flurbiprofen eye drop into the affected eye as directed by your doctor, typically starting before eye surgery and continuing afterward. Tilt your head back or lie down and pull the lower eyelid downward to form a pouch. Instill the drop and close your eye gently. Apply gentle pressure to the lacrimal sac for 1-2 minutes to limit systemic absorption. Wash hands before and after application.

Storage and disposal

Store Flubifeb eye drop at room temperature away from direct light and heat. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not freeze. Discard if the solution becomes discolored. Do not use after the expiration date. Dispose of unused eye drop according to local pharmacy guidelines.

Missed a Dose

How does this medicine work?

Flurbiprofen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by blocking cyclooxygenase enzymes in the eye. This reduces inflammation, pain, and swelling. It is applied topically to the eye where it provides local anti-inflammatory effects.

Interactions with other medicines

Inform your doctor about all other eye medications you are using. This eye drop may interact with other topical eye treatments. Allow at least 5-10 minutes between applications of different eye medications.
