Depsert 25 MG Description

Depsert 25 mg tablets contain sertraline as its active component. Sertraline belongs to the selective serotonin receptor inhibitors class of medicines, a part of antidepressants (medicines used to tr

eat depression). It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and anxiety. Depsert 25 mg tablets should be taken at a dose and for a duration as directed by your doctor. The medicine is usually started at a lower dose, and gradually the dose is increased. Continuous monitoring of the response to the medicine and side effects is done before deciding the optimum dose of the medicine. You should not abruptly stop taking the medicine as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, anxiety, headache, palpitations and sleep disturbances. Some of the most common side effects of the medicine are nausea, indigestion, decrease in appetite, sweating, tremors, diarrhoea and sleep disturbances. You may experience a decrease in sexual desire and delayed ejaculation. Most of the symptoms are mild and should go away within a few days if using the medicine. However, if these side effects bother you, you should consider consulting a doctor. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you take before starting this medicine. This would prevent any adverse interaction between the medicines. You should also tell your doctor about all the pre-existing conditions that you may have, like epilepsy, diabetes, kidney, and liver diseases. You should not take Depsert 25 mg tablets if you are already taking Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like Tranylcypromine, Selegiline. Take Depsert 25 mg tablets at a particular time of the day. This will help replenish the decrease in chemical substances in the nerve endings.

Depsert 25 mg tablets should not be taken during pregnancy as they increase the chances of heart defects in babies. It also causes premature fusion of the bones of the skull and causes improper development of the body's muscles.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Depsert 25 mg Tablet while breastfeeding?

Depsert 25 mg should not be taken while breastfeeding as it can pass through breast milk and cause symptoms like abnormal movements of the limbs, irritability, uncontrollable crying, lethargy and poor feeding. It can also decrease the respiratory rate in the child.

Can I drive if I have taken Depsert 25 mg tablet?

It would help if you did not drive after taking the Depsert 25 mg tablet, as it can increase the severity of side effects like drowsiness and impairment in judgement. You should avoid operating any machinery or doing work that requires focus.

Interactions with other medicines

Antidepressants (bupropion, fluoxetine) cause drowsiness and impairment in judgment.
Anticoagulants (warfarin) as the combination increases the chances of bleeding.
Barbiturate (phenobarbital or secobarbital) as it causes sedation when used with Depsert 25 mg tablets.
Medicines used in treating mania like lithium increase the chances of coarse tremors.
Bronchodilators (ipratropium or tiotropium) as they can increase the chances of tremors.
Antihistamines (cetirizine) as it causes drowsiness.
Cough medicine (dextromethorphan) can increase the chances of drowsiness and dryness of the mouth.
Antiarrhythmics (propafenone, flecainide) as the combination can increase the chances of palpitations and abnormalities in the heart rhythm.
Antifungals (ketoconazole) as Depsert 25 mg tablets decrease the efficacy of the medicine.
Antacids (Cimetidine, Omeprazole) as it decreases the absorption of the Depsert 25 mg tablets.
Anti-epileptics like phenytoin as Depsert 25 mg tablet can decrease the metabolism of phenytoin, leading to an increase in the concentration of phenytoin in the blood.
