Medical Description
The composition of Cortel 40mg Tab is telmisartan. It is an antihypertensive medicine and is categorised as an angiotensin receptor antagonist (ARA). It stops narrowing of the blood vessels, hence reducing the blood pressure and improving the blood flow.

- Common side effects of Cortel 40mg Tab include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, rashes, swelling of lips, face and throat, fainting and spinning of head
- Serious side effects of the medicine include decreased haemoglobin, increase in white blood cells, upper respiratory tract infection, deranged kidney function, depression, swelling and muscle pain

Pregnancy

Driving

This medicine does not have any effect on your driving ability. However, be careful if you experience symptoms like drowsiness and dizziness.
Alcohol

Other General Warnings

How Does It Work?
A substance called angiotensin-II is produced by the body which helps in constricting the blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. The medicine inhibits the binding of angiotensin-II to its receptors, relaxes the blood vessels and lowers the blood pressure.

Always take this medicine under your physician's guidance. Do not alter the dose by yourself. Do not stop taking the medicine before the end of your treatment.
Interactions of Cortel 40mg Tab
Interactions with other medicines
The medicine can react with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), aspirin, lithium, azathioprine, aliskiren, diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
Interactions with food items
Foods containing high levels of potassium should not be consumed while taking the medicine as it can lead to weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, tingling in the extremities and heaviness in the legs. Low salt diet is advised during the course of the medicine.

Overdose
Follow the dosage of Cortel 40mg Tab as prescribed by your doctor. Overdosing can cause increased heart rate, dizziness, extremely low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, increased levels of potassium in the blood and kidney failure. Seek medical help immediately.
