Brintellix Tablet is a prescription medication primarily used to treat major depressive disorder. Major depressive disorder or depression is a mood disorder is characterized by episodes of sadness, loss of interest, mood swings, hopelessness, weight changes, etc.
Brintellix Tablet contains Vortioxetine as a key ingredient. It is an antidepressant class of medicine. It works by elevating serotonin (a natural chemical produced by the nerve cells) in the brain, responsible for elevating mood, improving energy, and reducing nervousness.
Brintellix Tablet should be taken in dosage and duration as advised by your doctor. There are also many side effects associated with the consumption of this medicine, so the dosage must be carefully monitored from time to time. Do not stop consuming this medicine suddenly without consulting a doctor, as it can cause clinical worsening of your condition or lead to withdrawal symptoms.

- As per USFDA and MHRA-UK, Brintellix Tablet is used for:
- Treatment of Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of the Brintellix Tablet, i.e., Votrioxetine.
- If you have acute angle glaucoma (a condition of the eye), which increases the fluid pressure in the eyes,
- If you have liver or kidney disease
- If you have respiratory issues
- If you have a heart condition

Talk to your doctor if

Directions for Use
- Take the Brintellix Tablet as prescribed by the doctor
- You can take this medicine with or without food or as prescribed
- Take this medicine on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time every day
- Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water. Do not break/crush the tablet or chew this medicine
- Do not take this tablet with other medications without consulting your doctor
- Don’t stop taking this medication suddenly, as it may lead to withdrawal side effects
Storage and disposal
Store Brintellix Tablet at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight.
Keep Brintellix Tabletaway from the reach of children and pet animals in a locked cabin. Do not remove the medicine from its original packaging.
Do not flush Brintellix Tablet down into the toilet. Do not throw away the medicines via household waste. Dispose of the expired medicine immediately. Do not use it after the expiry date stated on the label.

Overdose
Brintellix Tablet overdose can result in symptoms like nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, extreme sleepiness, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, slowing of heart rate, double vision, difficulty breathing, cardiac arrest, ECG changes (change in heart functioning) and coma. If you experience any of these symptoms or in case of overdose, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.
Missed a Dose
If you’ve missed a dose of the Brintellix Tablet, take it as you remember. If it's already time to take the next scheduled dose, then take the next scheduled dose. Do not double doses as it can cause overdose side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have any further queries regarding this issue.

How Does It Work?
Brintellix Tablet contains Vortioxetine (20 mg) as an active ingredient. Vortioxetine is an antidepressant class of medicine. It works mainly by increasing the amount of a natural substance called serotonin in the brain that helps maintain mood and mental balance. Increased level of serotonin directly leads to improved mood and relieve depressive symptoms.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Tell your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription medications, herbal products, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take to reduce the chance of Drug Interaction. Many medicines can interact with Brintellix Tablet, making it less effective or increasing side effects. This includes-
- Antidepressants like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline, lithium, triptans, buspirone, amphetamines are strictly contraindicated as it may cause severe reactions
- Interaction with metoprolol can lead to excessive bradycardia (slow heart rate)
- Interaction with antidepressants, antipsychotics (pimozide, haloperidol), and antihistamines can prolong QT interval(measurement on ECG) which alter heart rhythm
- NSAIDs, Aspirin, and other medications which affect coagulation may interact. They can increase the risk of bleeding
- Azole antifungals such as clarithromycin (e.g., fluconazole, fluvoxamine, omeprazole) may cause interaction and increase serum levels
- Interaction with Herbal products like St john’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects
Interactions with food items
- You should avoid consuming Brintellix Tablet with cola drinks caffeine-containing food items- tea, coffee, and chocolates as it can result in serotonin syndrome (high levels of serotonin).
