Medical Description
Amilite Plus tablet contains a combination of two medicines - Amitriptyline and Chlordiazepoxide. These tablets should be taken at a fixed time each day to maintain the balance between the chemical substances in the brain. The use of Amilite Plus tablets include management of depression, eating disorders, and panic disorders.
Amilite Plus tablets prevent the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine at the nerve endings. Serotonin helps to give a sense of satisfaction and enhances the mood. On the other hand, norepinephrine helps increase the body's energy levels. Amilite Plus tablets take about 4-6 weeks to show effects.
The most common side effects of Amilite Plus tablets are constipation, decrease in sexual desire, difficulty in urination, fatigue (tiredness), drowsiness, decreased appetite, and tremors. Most of the side effects are mild and should not interfere with your day-to-day activities. However, if the side effects increase in severity, you should consult your doctor.
You should inform the doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions you have and about all the medicines you take before starting this medication. This would prevent any potential adverse interaction with other medicines.
You should take this medicine at a dose and for a duration as advised by the doctor. Take it before or after having food. You should continuously monitor your symptoms. If you notice any drastic change in your behavior or notice any suicidal thoughts or thoughts related to self-harm, you should inform your doctor immediately.

Contraindications
- Amilite Plus tablets are contraindicated in those who have had allergic reactions to the medicine in the past.
- This medicine should not be taken with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) like Tranylcypromine, Selegiline. Combining these medicines can cause severe adverse effects like flushing, low blood pressure levels, coma and can even lead to death.
- Amilite plus tablets should not be prescribed to those who suffer from pre-existing heart diseases.
- This medicine should not be used in people with pre-existing liver diseases as the medicine is metabolized in the liver.
- Children, adolescents, and young adults should be prescribed Amilite Plus tablets with caution as this medicine increases the chances of suicidal thoughts in them.

- If you have angle-closure glaucoma, you should inform your doctor as Amilite Plus may increase the severity of the symptoms.
- You should use an Amilite Plus tablet for the elderly after monitoring their health conditions. Dose modifications may be required in elderly people.
- You should monitor the functions of the liver after taking this medicine. Liver function tests should be done as directed by the doctor.
- You should inform your doctor regarding any pre-existing kidney conditions. This medicine is primarily excreted through urine. Hence, a decrease in the excretion of the medicine can increase its concentration in the body.
- You should monitor your weight regularly as the medicine can cause weight gain. You should indulge in physical activities to prevent excessive weight gain.

Taking more than the recommended dose of Amilite Plus tablets can cause symptoms like abnormalities in heartbeats, restlessness, agitation, confusion, jerky body movements, extreme dizziness, and low respiratory rate. You should rush to the nearby emergency room immediately or consult a doctor.
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose of Amilite Plus tablet, you should take it as soon as possible. However, if it’s time for the next dose to be taken, you may skip it and continue with your regular schedule. You should not take two doses at a time to compensate for the missed dose.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Antidepressants (bupropion, fluoxetine) cause drowsiness and impairment in judgment.
- Antiepileptics (phenytoin) as it decreases the efficacy of Amilite Plus tablets.
- Anti-malaria medication (Quinidine) as the combination can cause abnormalities in the heart.
- Barbiturate (phenobarbital or secobarbital) as it causes sedation when used with Amilite Plus tablets.
- Medicines used to treat urine incontinence (darifenacin, fesoterodine, oxybutynin, tolterodine) as they become ineffective in the presence of Amilite Plus tablets.
- Bronchodilators (ipratropium or tiotropium) can increase the chances of tremors.
- Antihistamines (cetirizine) as they cause drowsiness.
- Cough medicine (dextromethorphan) increases the chances of drowsiness and dryness of the mouth.
- Antiarrhythmics (propafenone, flecainide) as the combination can increase the chances of palpitations and abnormalities in the heart rhythm.
- Antifungals (ketoconazole) as Amilite Plus tablets decrease the efficacy of the medicine.
- Antacids (Cimetidine, Omeprazole) as it decreases the absorption of the Amilite Plus tablets.
- Medicines used to treat Parkinson’s disease, such as ropinirole as Amilite Plus tablets, can increase the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease like tremors and bradykinesia (slow movement).
