Sparfloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the Fluoroquinolone group. It is a long-acting medicine and works by killing bacteria that cause infections.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
It inhibits the enzymes that are responsible for bacterial growth, repair and replication of DNA, which in turn restrict bacterial growth.

Interactions with other medicines
- Tinazidine
- Blood thinners (e.g. Warfarin)
- Antacids that contain magnesium or aluminium
- Didanosine chewable tablets
- A phosphate binder like Sevelamer or Lanthanum Carbonate
- Vitamin and mineral supplements that contain calcium, zinc and iron
Interactions with food items
This medicine has interactions with caffeine and milk/ milk products. Sparfloxacin can make the effect of caffeine stronger. Dairy or milk products or other products fortified with calcium can cause the medicine less effective.

Overdose
A massive overdose of Sparfloxacin could cause kidney damage. A very large dose of this medicine can cause trouble in breathing, vomiting and seizures. Missed a Dose
Avoid missing doses as this may increase your risk of developing an infection that may be resistant to antibiotics. Take medicine as soon as you remember. If the missed dose falls at the time of your next scheduled dose, then skip it. Do not take an extra dose.
