Prulifloxacin belongs to a group of Fluoroquinolones, which is an antibiotic th
at acts on bacteria. It prevents the multiplication of bacteria and leads to bacterial cell death, thereby prevents the infection.
Uses of Prulifloxacin
- Acute uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections (simple cystitis)
- Complicated lower urinary tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Gastroenteritis, including infectious diarrhea
Contraindications of Prulifloxacin
When should one not use Prulifloxacin
- Patients with tendon diseases related to the administration of Quinolones
- Hypersensitivity to Prulifloxacin, any member of the Quinolone class of antimicrobial agents
- Celiac disease
- Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
- Depression and anxiety disorders

Pregnancy

Mode of Action of Prulifloxacin
How Does It Work?
Fluoroquinolones stops the replication, repair, recombination and transcription of bacterial DNA; it does this by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase. Bacteria get eradicated due to this mechanism.

Interactions with other medicines
- Warfarin
- Antacids containing calcium/ magnesium/ aluminium
- Theophylline
- Cimetidine
- Probenecid
- Hypoglycemic agents
- Nicardipine
Interactions with food items
It may interact with dairy products rendering the medicine ineffective, so they must not be eaten in excess.
Dietary Restrictions of Prulifloxacin
You must ensure that you don’t consume a lot of dairy products, juices or any calcium-fortified products.
Dosage of Prulifloxacin
Overdose
Get medical treatment immediately or visit the doctor in case of taking an overdose. You must make the person vomit to empty the stomach, if he has overdosed on the medicine.
Missed a Dose
If you missed any dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it comes close to the next dose, then you can take that dose and skip the missed dose altogether. Never double the dose.
