Medical Description
Wysolone DT 20 Tablet is a higher-strength corticosteroid used for short, intensive courses to bring inflammation rapidly under control. It is commonly prescribed for asthma attacks, severe allergies, flares of rheumatic and inflammatory disease, and certain skin, kidney and blood disorders.
It contains prednisolone as a dispersible tablet, designed to be broken up in a small amount of water before swallowing. This suits children and anyone who finds tablets difficult, and gives a slightly more predictable absorption than a swallowed tablet.
Prednisolone enters cells and acts on DNA, switching off the genes producing inflammatory chemicals and switching on those that suppress them. At this strength the effect is substantial, and so are the metabolic consequences.
Raised blood sugar, increased appetite, fluid retention, restlessness and disturbed sleep are all common during a short burst and usually settle once it ends. Take the whole dose in the morning with food to limit stomach upset and sleep disruption.
Courses shorter than about three weeks can often be stopped directly, but anything longer, or repeated courses, must be tapered because the adrenal glands reduce their own output. Report any sign of infection promptly, as steroids mask them.

How does this medicine work?
- Wysolone Dt 20 tablet contains prednisolone which is a man-made steroid. Steroids are hormones produced in the human body naturally that play an important role in maintaining normal physiological function and well being of the human body.
- This medicine mimics the action of naturally produced steroids. It works by suppressing the immune response in allergies, inflammation, autoimmune diseases and during organ transplantation.
Interactions
Interactions with other drugs
Interactions with food items
- Disperse Wysolone DT 20 Tablet in water and take it with or just after breakfast. Food matters more at this strength, as steroids irritate the stomach lining in proportion to the dose.
- Watch sugar and refined carbohydrate closely during the course. Twenty milligrams of prednisolone raises blood glucose appreciably, and if you have diabetes you should test more frequently from the first day.
- Reduce salt for the duration. Prednisolone causes fluid retention, and cutting pickles, papads, packaged snacks and processed food limits the swelling and rise in blood pressure.
- Appetite typically increases within days. Planning meals and keeping snacks out of easy reach is more effective than trying to resist once the urge appears.
- Include protein sources such as dal, eggs, fish, chicken and paneer, and calcium from milk, curd and paneer, particularly if you have repeated courses.
- Limit alcohol, which adds to stomach irritation, sleep disturbance and raised blood sugar.
