Medical Description

Solvin Od is a medication used for cough and cold. It is used to treat symptoms caused by allergies such as runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing and watery/itchy eyes. It is a combination medication containing levocetirizine and pseudoephedrine as its active ingredients. Levocetirizine works by blocking the natural chemical (histamine) responsible for the allergic reaction. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant, and it helps relieve the congestion or stuffiness of the nose and runny nose. The side effects that are most commonly experienced with the use of Solvin Od include headache, nausea, tiredness, dizziness, drowsiness, sleep issues and dryness of the mouth. These symptoms are usually self-limiting and resolve on their own. However, it is important to get in touch with your physician if any symptoms show signs of worsening, are troublesome or do not resolve. Solvin Od tablets should be swallowed whole. It can be taken with or without food, as per the regular dosing schedule. The dosage should be as prescribed by your doctor based on condition, age, and treatment response. It should not be increased or taken more often than prescribed.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Solvin Od is a combination of levocetirizine and pseudoephedrine. Levocetirizine is an antihistamine (allergy medicine), which works by blocking the chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for allergic symptoms like watery eyes, sneezing, and runny nose. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which causes narrowing of the small blood vessels in the nose, decreasing congestion.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Antidepressants (such as isocarboxazid, selegiline, tranylcypromine) taken with this medication may cause a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction. Most antidepressants should not be taken for two weeks before treatment with this medication.
  • Other products that cause drowsiness such as pain medications (opioid) or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone), medications for sleep (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants (such as carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine), or other anti-allergy (such as chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine) can cause severe side effects.
  • Solvin Od should not be used while using cetirizine because cetirizine is very similar to levocetirizine.
