Sofracin Skin ointment is a topical antibiotic ointment. It is used to treat various skin conditions caused by a bacterial infection associated with skin, hair, external ear, and nail infections caused by bacteria and open wounds suspected to have a bacterial infection. Sofracin Skin ointment contains framycetin as its active ingredient. It is an antibiotic that works by killing the bacteria responsible for the infection. framycetin works by inhibiting the protein synthesis in the bacterial cell by binding to specific receptors in ribosomes of infection-causing bacteria. Your doctor decides the dose and duration of the treatment with Sofracin Skin ointment after diagnosis. You should use this medicine as advised by your doctor for the exact prescribed time in order to see effective results. This ointment should be used externally only.

Uses of Sofracin Skin 1 %

Sofracin Skin ointment is used for the infection of hair, nails, skin, and external ears such as impetigo, furunculosis, sycosis, razor bumps, otitis media (Middle ear infection), and paronychia.
To treat skin conditions such as burns, scalds, wounds, ulcers, and boils suspected to have a bacterial infection.
It is also used to treat secondary infection in sores due to scabies and scratching of scalp skin due to lice.

Contraindications of Sofracin Skin 1 %

If you are allergic to framycetin or any other components of Sofracin Skin ointment.
If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant or trying to conceive.
If you have perforations in your eardrum (a thin membrane that separates your ear canal from your middle ear).

Can I use Sofracin Skin ointment during pregnancy?

Breast Feeding

Can I use Sofracin Skin ointment while breastfeeding?

It can be used by a breastfeeding woman if prescribed by the doctor. It should not be applied to the breast or areas near the breast of a breastfeeding mother as there can be chances of ingestion of this by a breastfed infant. Avoid using it on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period.

Directions for Use of Sofracin Skin 1 %

Sofracin Skin ointment is meant for external application.
Use this medicine for the exact duration it is prescribed for.

Apply a thin layer of ointment and repeat as prescribed by your doctor.
Clean and dry the infected area well.
Wash your hands before and after using this ointment unless your hands are the area to be treated.

Sofracin Skin ointment is meant for external applications, the cases of overdose are unlikely.
However, upon accidental ingestion of ointment, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
If you have overapplied it, wipe out the excess ointment with a clean tissue or cotton.
Excessive use of it for a prolonged duration is not advised.

Missed a Dose

If you missed applying Sofracin Skin ointment, apply it as soon as you remember.
