Proluton Depot 500mg/2ml Injection
Description
Proluton Depot Injection contains hydroxyprogesterone caproate, a manmade form of the natural female hormone progesterone. It is mainly prescribed to reduce the risk of premature birth in women who have a history of delivering a premature baby. Progesterone plays an important role in maintaining pregnancy by supporting the uterine lining and regulating hormonal balance. Although the exact mechanism by which hydroxyprogesterone prevents premature birth is not fully understood, it is believed to help by compensating for hormonal deficiencies and promoting uterine development.
This medicine is given as an intramuscular injection by a doctor or nurse, usually in a hospital or clinical setting. It is not meant for self-administration. The treatment duration depends on the patient’s medical condition, pregnancy stage, and how well the medicine is tolerated.
It is very important to share with your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, hormone-dependent cancers (like breast cancer), blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or depression. Proluton Depot Injection is not recommended for women carrying multiple babies (twins, triplets, etc.) or for stopping active premature labour.
Like all medicines, Proluton may cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, injection site pain or swelling, and skin rash. Rarely, it can cause jaundice, severe allergic reactions, or blood clot formation. Patients should be closely monitored during therapy.
