Petril Tablets is a medicine used to treat epilepsy, seizures, and anxiety disorders. The main salt in this medicine is clonazepam, an anticonvulsant drug. The most common way of consuming this tablet is through the oral route- swallowed with water. Epilepsy is a condition in which there is an unusual activity of neurons in the brain. Fits, seizures and abnormal behaviour characterise this condition. The main side effects include- drowsiness, behaviour changes, nausea, sleep uneasiness, etc. However, it is to be noted that these effects start with the initial doses and happen to subside as the course of the treatment goes into later stages. The dose of this medicine starts at a lower dose and then gradually increases. Petril Tablets is a prescription medicine and should never be taken without consultation with the doctor. This medicine should always be taken at the same time every day. One should neither take the overdose nor skip any dose during the ongoing treatment.

The main salt in Petril Tablets is clonazepam. Clonazepam is used as an anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant. It suppresses the abnormal activity of the (GABA) gamma-aminobutyric acid. It is a potent BZD- benzodiazepine, which decreases the rapid firing of neurons in the brain, thus producing a relaxing effect on the brain. GABA is a chemical messenger in the brain.

  • Medicines for the heart- verapamil. - increase blood levels of petril tablet leading to signs of overdose
  • If the patient is already taking any form of medicine- herbal, homoeopathy or any other alternative medicine, they should always inform their doctor before starting the medicine.
