Medical Description

Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets fall under the therapeutic classification of benzodiazepines. Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablet is most commonly used for the treatment of insomnia. Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which a person has trouble falling and/or staying asleep. Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets are composed of nitrazepam. It is also widely used as a sedative/hypnotic and in the management of myoclonic seizures (fits or convulsions with quick, involuntary muscle jerk). This medicine has a calming effect, which helps you to sleep. Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine, and it is to be taken exactly as suggested by the physician. Do not take in more than prescribed amounts as it may cause harmful side effects. Consult your physician immediately if you experience any side effects, worsening of your condition, or allergic side effects. Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better. It is essential to follow the complete course of treatment suggested by your physician. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. Consult your doctor as they may taper the dosage gradually before stopping it completely to prevent withdrawal symptoms like depression, headaches, muscle weakness, nervousness, extreme anxiety, tension, restlessness, confusion, mood changes, rebound insomnia, irritability, sweating, and diarrhoea. Pregnancy

Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets are unsafe to use during pregnancy. Side effects like irregularities in the foetal heart rate, hypotonia, poor sucking, hypothermia, and moderate respiratory depression have been observed in newborns. Physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms have been reported in newborns whose mothers have taken this medicine in the late stage of pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking Nitrosum Tabs. Do inform the doctor about your pregnancy or intention to conceive at the time of consultation.

Breast Feeding

Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets are unsafe to use during breastfeeding. If you are using this medicine, keep your doctor informed. This medicine can get excreted into breast milk and increase the risk of side effects to the baby.

Driving

Directions for Use

  • Always take the Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets exactly as directed by your doctor.

  • Swallow Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush it.
  • For optimal pharmacological effects, take Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets at the same time every day for the prescribed duration.

Overdose

Symptoms of an overdose of Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets can be drowsiness, mental confusion, dysarthria, lethargy, ataxia, hypotonia, hypotension, respiratory depression. In case of an overdose of Nitrosum Tabs, seek emergency medical treatment immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take the missed dose of Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets as soon as you can. If the gap is too long or it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not alter the recommended dosage, as it can have adverse effects.

Interactions with other medicines

  • To avoid undesirable side effects associated with medicine interaction, inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are currently taking.
  • Nitrosum 2.5 mg tablets can cause adverse reactions when taken with the following medicines:
  • Interaction with other sedative medicines such as benzodiazepines like lorazepam, diazepam and opioids like morphine, codeine can increase the risk of sedation, respiratory depression, coma and death because of additive CNS depressant effect.
  • Interaction with tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, imipramine can increase the effects of this medicine.
  • Interaction with moxonidine enhances the sedative effect of the medicine.

Interactions with food items

  • There are no known adverse interactions of Nitrosum Tabs with food. Unless your physician suggests, there is no need to avoid any particular type of food or drink when taking Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets.

Yes. Habit-forming tendencies were reported in patients who are taking Nitrosum 2.5 mg Tablets.
