Medical Description

Nitra mouth gel is used to relieve sensitive teeth and to help protect against dental cavities. It is a combination of potassium nitrate and sodium monofluorophosphate. Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

This gel works mainly inside the mouth with very little reaching the rest of the body, so it is generally considered fine during pregnancy. Check with your dentist if you have any doubts.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Very little of this gel is taken into the body, so it is generally considered suitable while breastfeeding. Ask your dentist if you are unsure.

Driving

Driving

This gel does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.

Alcohol

Alcohol

There is no known problem with drinking alcohol while using this gel.

Directions for Use

For use in the mouth only. Brush your teeth gently with a soft toothbrush using the gel, or apply it the way your dentist has shown you. Spit out the excess and try not to rinse straight away, so the ingredients have time to work on your teeth. Do not swallow the gel.

Storage and disposal

Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight, with the cap closed tightly. Keep it out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Quick Tips

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid irritating your teeth and gums.
  • Sensitivity usually eases over a few weeks of regular use.
  • Try not to rinse with water right after using the gel.
  • Change your toothbrush about every three months.

Dosage

Overdose

Used as directed on the teeth, an overdose is very unlikely. Swallowing a large amount by accident may cause an upset stomach. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you forget to use the gel, use it as soon as you remember. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

This gel tackles sensitivity and decay at the same time. The potassium nitrate gradually soothes the nerve endings inside the tooth, so the sharp twinges you feel with hot, cold, or sweet food fade with regular use. The sodium monofluorophosphate adds a protective layer to the hard outer surface of the teeth, making it tougher against the acids that lead to cavities.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

No specific medicine interactions are known with Nitra. Even so, tell your doctor or dentist about all the medicines, vitamins, or herbal products you are using. In particular, mention any other dental or mouth treatments so they can advise you on using them together.

Interactions with food items

Acidic foods and drinks can wear down tooth enamel over time, so cutting back on them helps this gel protect your teeth better.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Many people notice relief within a couple of weeks of regular use. It can take up to four weeks of steady use to build full protection. See your dentist if there is no change by then.
Yes, you can use it alongside your usual toothpaste. Follow the way your dentist has told you to use it so you get the most benefit.
When used as directed, it is generally safe to use over the long term to manage sensitivity and help prevent cavities. Your dentist can guide you on how long to keep using it.
Rinsing straight away washes the active ingredients off before they can settle into your enamel and calm the tooth nerve. Leaving a thin layer on the teeth helps it work better.
