Methimez 5 MG Description

Methimez 5 Tablet contains Methimazole as an active ingredient. It is used in the treatment of overproduction of hormones by the thyroid gland and this condition is known as hyperthyroidism. This med

icine works by inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormone and helps to treat hyperthyroidism. Do not use it if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or allergic to Methimazole. Nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, skin rashes are some side effects of this medicine, these are temporary and disappear on their own. If side effects persist or there is no improvement in your condition, then inform your doctor.

Methimez tablet is used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition of overproduction of a hormone by the thyroid gland.

Contraindications of Methimez 5 MG

If you are allergic to Methimazole or any of the ingredients of this medicine.

Side effects of Methimez 5 MG

Nausea, vomiting, upset stomach.
Blood disorders like anaemia, low level of white and red blood cells, low platelets in the blood, etc.
Autoimmune disorder symptoms include muscle and joint pain, tiredness, blurred vision, fever.
Fever, hepatitis, jaundice.
Skin rashes, urge to scratch, pricking sensation, skin pigmentation, swelling.
Hair loss, loss of taste, drowsiness, inflammation of the salivary gland.

Pregnancy

Can I take Methimez 5 Tablet during pregnancy?

It is advisable not to take this medicine during pregnancy especially, during the first trimester. It can harm the foetus. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking the Methimez tablet. The doctor may suggest alternate medicine.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Methimez 5 Tablet while breastfeeding?

It passes into the breastmilk in a small amount. However, it does not cause any harm to the breastfed baby, but it is advisable to consult a doctor before breastfeeding during the treatment.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Methimez 5 Tablet?

This medicine does not affect your ability to drive or to use machinery. However, if you experience side effects like dizziness, then avoid driving or using machines.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Methimez 5 Tablet?

There is no known interaction with alcohol along with this medicine. Consult your physician if you have a habit of regular drinking.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You are pregnant or planning to have a baby, as it can harm the foetus.
You may develop a risk of blood disorders like anaemia, low level of white blood cells in the blood, etc. If the symptoms include fever, sore throat, then report to the doctor immediately.
You experience a liver problem, symptoms may include weight loss, pain in the upper abdomen, urge to scratch, etc. The doctor will immediately ask for liver function tests.
You may develop hypothyroidism (a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone), the doctor may suggest monitoring the TSH and T4 levels regularly during the treatment.

Methimez 5 Tablet acts by stopping the synthesis of thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland. Hence, it helps in the treatment of hyperthyroidism.

Interactions of Methimez 5 MG

Interactions with other medicines

If it is used along with blood thinner such as warfarin, then close monitoring of clotting time is required.
Other medicines are Theophylline to treat a respiratory disorder, digitalis to treat heart conditions, the doctor may reduce the dose of it if used along with Methimez 5 Tablet.
Medicines used to treat high blood pressure like Propranolol, Sotalol should be used with caution during the treatment.

Store Methimez tablet below 30°C
Keep it in a tightly closed container to protect it from light and moisture

Dosage of Methimez 5 MG

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, fever, joint pain, urge to scratch, and swelling.
If you think you have taken too much of the Methimez tablet, then contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of Methimez tablet, then take it as soon as you remember.
If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule.
Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.
