Contraindications
- If you are allergic to metoprolol or any other ingredient of Met XL 12.5 tablet.
- If you have any heart conditions such as heart block or uncontrolled heart failure.
- If you have asthma or any other lung condition.
- If you have low blood pressure, diabetes.
- If you have renal or liver disease.
- If you have an electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance.
- If you have a decreased heart rate.
- If you are on medication like verapamil, diltiazem, disopyramide (heart medicine).

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicine alters the effect of Met XL 12.5 tablet or Met XL itself reduces the effectiveness of other medicine.
- It is used to treat diabetes like insulin may be increased with Met XL 12.5 medicine.
- Medicines used to treat heart failure like digoxin may alter the effect.
- Medicines used to treat heart conditions like verapamil, diltiazem, nifedipine causes a decrease in heart rate, low blood pressure when used along with the medicine.
- Pain-killer medicines like diclofenac, indomethacin may decrease the effect of Met XL 12.5 tablet.
- Rifampicin (anti-tubercular) decrease the effect of Met XL 12.5 tablet, whereas paroxetine, fluoxetine, sertraline (mood elevator), cimetidine (acid-lowering), hydralazine (anti-allergic), lidocaine (anaesthetic) increase the effect of the medicine.
- Concurrent use of hormonal pills like oestrogen decreases the anti-hypertensive action of the medicine.
- Concurrent use of medicines like aldesleukin (skin cancer), alprostadil (erectile dysfunction), clonazepam, diazepine (mood and sleep) increases the effect of Met XL 12.5 tablet.
- Discuss with the doctor about the other medicine, herbal preparation and supplements you take to avoid possible interactions.
