Licab 300 MG Description
Licab is a medication containing lithium. Lithium acts as a mood stabiliser. Licab helps in conditions with mania or an unstable mood. The exact mechanism of action of lithium is not known. Howeve
r, it acts on neurotransmitters, including catecholamines and serotonin. This might be related to action on sodium channels. Licab is contraindicated in pregnancy, especially in the initial period. In case of planning a pregnancy, inform the physician in advance. Licab also affects the kidneys. The dose of Licab must be carefully regulated. It should only be taken in the dose prescribed by the physician.

- If you suffer from a renal disease

Mode of Action of Licab 300 MG
How Does It Work?
Even after years of use, the exact mechanism of action of Licab is not known. There are chemical messengers in the brain known as neurotransmitters. Lithium is said to modify the levels of the neurotransmitters serotonin and catecholamines. It is also postulated to decrease the activity of protein kinase C. With long term use, Licab can increase the volume of grey matter....
Directions for Use of Licab 300 MG
- Licab should be taken as prescribed by the doctor.
- It is advised to take this medication at the same time every day for optimal pharmacological effects.
- This medicine can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow this medication as a whole.
- Do not crush, chew or break this tablet.
- It is recommended to finish the full course of this medication as prescribed by the doctor.
- Abrupt stoppage of the medication can cause withdrawal side effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication.
Interactions of Licab 300 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Licab should be used with caution with other antipsychotic medications. It is especially dangerous when taken with haloperidol. Concomitant use can cause weakness, tiredness, fever, tremors, and changes in enzyme and sugar levels....
- Caution is needed when using Licab along with painkillers belonging to the class of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti inflammatory agents). It can result in symptoms of lithium toxicity such as diarrhoea, vomiting, drowsiness, and weakness....
- Use of Licab along with diuretics or ACE inhibitors (for example, to control blood pressure) can affect sodium levels.
Interactions with food items
- There are no specific restrictions related to food.
Storage and disposal of Licab 300 MG
Store in a cool and dry place away from direct light and moisture. Do not use the medicine after the date of expiration. Keep the tablets away from children and pets. Do not flush the medication down the toilet. Dispose of it with biomedical waste only....
Dosage of Licab 300 MG
Overdose
Taking Licab in quantities greater than prescribed can result in toxicity. Symptoms of Licab overdose include weakness, drowsiness, tremors, and diarrhoea. In case of a suspected overdose, rush the patient to a tertiary care centre with ICU facilities for further evaluation and treatment....
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose of this tablet, it is advised to take it as soon as possible. If the duration missed is too long, and it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the regular schedule. Do not double the dose of the tablet....

Q: I have been taking Licab for 2 years. Now I have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem. Can I continue using this tablet?
A: Thyroid hormone levels need to be monitored when taken with Licab. You must consult your doctor to know if any dose adjustment is needed.
Q: Since I started Licab, I feel very thirsty. I also feel like visiting the bathroom more often. Is this normal?
