Medical Description
Lemtrada injection is used to treat relapsing-remitting forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and contains alemtuzumab, a CD52-directed monoclonal antibody. It binds to CD52 on certain white blood cells and causes their depletion, reducing the abnormal immune activity involved in MS.
Because Lemtrada injection significantly reduces certain blood cells and suppresses the immune system, it can increase the risk of serious or potentially fatal infections and other complications. Close medical monitoring and infection-prevention measures are required during and after treatment.
Lemtrada injection is administered as a slow intravenous infusion, by trained healthcare professionals. Premedication is given before each infusion to reduce infusion-related reactions, which may include fever, chills, low blood pressure, breathing difficulties, wheezing, or rash.
Lemtrada injection must be used exactly as prescribed and should not be started, stopped, or modified without medical advice. Serious risks include severe reductions in blood-cell counts, serious infusion reactions, and serious or potentially fatal infections.
Before treatment, tell your doctor if you have an active infection, immune-system disorder, heart condition, low blood pressure, or a previous serious reaction to alemtuzumab or other medicines. Also provide a complete list of all medicines, supplements, vitamins, and herbal products you take.
Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception during treatment and for the recommended period after the last treatment course. Because regular blood monitoring is required during treatment and for an extended period afterward, Lemtrada injection should only be administered under appropriate medical supervision.

Quick Tips

- Use reliable contraception: Women should avoid pregnancy during treatment and for at least 4 months after the last dose.
- Report signs of infection: Contact your doctor if you develop fever, cough, or sore throat, as the immune system may be weakened.
