Medical Description

Hemobest XT syrup is used to support haemoglobin and healthy red blood cell formation when iron, folic acid or vitamin B12 intake is inadequate. It contains a combination of iron, folic acid and cyanocobalamin, a form of vitamin B12. Iron contributes the material needed for haemoglobin, while folic acid and vitamin B12 support the formation and maturation of red blood cells and normal nerve function. Hemobest XT syrup is given by mouth using a measuring device and is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.

Uses

  • Iron deficiency anaemia: Iron supplies the material needed to rebuild haemoglobin and support red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body.
  • Red blood cell formation: Folic acid and vitamin B12 help cells develop normally and support healthy blood formation when these nutrients are low.
  • Vitamin deficiency: This syrup helps provide iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 when a healthcare professional identifies inadequate nutritional intake.
  • Nerve and energy support: Vitamin B12 supports normal nerve function, while iron and vitamin B12 contribute to energy metabolism when deficiency is present.

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use iron-containing treatment for anaemia until a doctor has assessed the cause. • Constipation: Iron may make bowel movements harder or less frequent; drink enough fluid and seek advice if severe pain or prolonged constipation develops.

Dosage

Overdose

An excess of iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness or collapse, especially in children. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Iron provides the material needed to make haemoglobin, the red blood cell protein that carries oxygen. Folic acid supports cell division and red blood cell formation. Cyanocobalamin, a form of vitamin B12, supports red blood cell development and normal nerve function.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Hemobest XT syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower iron absorption, while iron can lower the absorption of thyroid medicines and some antibiotics. Also mention other iron or folic acid products.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk and calcium-containing products may reduce iron absorption. Ask your pharmacist how to separate them from Hemobest XT syrup.
