Medical Description
Gemwem Rtu injection contains gemcitabine, a targeted chemotherapy medicine belonging to the antimetabolite class. It works by interfering with the ability of cancer cells to make and repair DNA, which slows their growth and can cause them to die.
Gemwem Rtu injection is converted inside cells into active metabolites that become incorporated into DNA and inhibit enzymes needed for DNA synthesis. This prevents cancer cells from copying their genetic material and leads to cell death.
Gemwem Rtu injection is given directly into a vein intravenously (IV) by trained healthcare professionals in a hospital or oncology clinic.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Radiation Therapy: Gemcitabine given together with radiation therapy can increase tissue damage and other toxic effects. Tell your doctor if you are receiving or have recently received radiotherapy.
- Live Vaccines: Generally avoid live vaccines during treatment because gemcitabine can weaken the immune system and may increase the risk of infection from live vaccines.
- Other medicines that lower blood counts: Taking other medicines that suppress the bone marrow may increase the risk of low blood cell counts and infection.
- Always share a full list of your current medicines, vitamins, and supplements with your oncology team.
