Uses
- Flumusa Forte is used in the management of:
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Panic disorders
Contraindications
- It is contraindicated in patients with known fluoxetine, alprazolam or benzodiazepine hypersensitivity, or known allergies to any components in this medication.
- Patients with abnormal heart rhythms should not use this medication.
- It is contraindicated in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma.
- This medication is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis.
- This medication should not be used in patients with conditions that cause respiratory insufficiency and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
- One should use it with caution in case of any history of substance abuse.
- It should be used with caution in those with liver and kidney disease.
- There is a US black box warning for use in children and young adults, as it can increase suicidal ideation.

- You have a history of addiction or substance misuse.
- You are taking any other medications. The ingredients of this tablet may react with several other tablets that use the same pathway of metabolism in the body.
- It is known to cause both weight loss as well as weight gain. Hence, adjusting your dietary practices and exercising regularly while on this medication are beneficial.
Directions for Use
- This medication should be taken as prescribed by the treating physician.
- Patients are recommended to take this medication on a regular schedule at the same time every day for best results.
- Swallow this medication as a whole. Do not crush, chew or break this tablet.
- It is recommended to finish the entire course of this medication as prescribed by your treating doctor.
- This medication may require time for the onset of action. Do not increase the dose without explicit advice from your treating physician.
- Abrupt stoppage of the medicine can cause withdrawal side effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication.
- This medication has habit-forming tendencies; hence it is recommended to follow the directions of your treating physician precisely and have a regular follow-up.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- This medication should not be mixed with alcohol, opioids, or any other CNS depressant, as it can cause worsening of side effects such as sedation, respiratory depression and coma and can be dangerous.
- It should not be mixed with medications that cause the arrest of bleeding, such as aspirin, NSAIDs, heparin, warfarin, and other anti-coagulants as Fluoxetine in itself causes decreased activity of platelets. This may lead to bruising, nose bleeds, or internal bleeding.
- This medicine should not be used concomitantly or within 2 weeks of using Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It may cause serotonin syndrome - a potentially threatening life issue.
- The use of Fluoxetine with thioridazine, pimozide, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors, including linezolid or methylene blue, is also contraindicated.
- Patients who are taking other medications that increase serotonin levels should be educated regarding the risks.
- It should not be used with tablets that cause abnormal heart rhythms.
- It should not be used with medications that affect the activities of the enzymes involved in metabolising the components of this medicine. It can otherwise cause increased side effects.
- Inform your doctor regarding your current medications at the time of prescription of Flumusa Forte.
