Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

The Depranil Plus tablet contains Imipramine and Diazepam as its active substance. Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant medication. It is believed that it works by stopping the reuptake of chemical messengers like norepinephrine and serotonin, which are neurotransmitters present at the end of nerve cells in the brain. By preventing their reuptake, the effects of these messengers last longer. This helps in regulating mood swings and managing depression. Diazepam belongs to the benzodiazepine class of medications. It has anxiolytic, sedative, muscle- relaxant, anticonvulsant, and amnestic effects. These effects are increased due to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activity. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) in the brain and nervous system.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Do not use Depranil Plus tablets along with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like linezolid, methylene blue, phenelzine, selegiline, etc. This can result in side effects like tremors, severe seizures, etc. It can sometimes even cause death. • Do not take medicine with a similar composition as Depranil Plus tablets. Compounds like sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine, etc. can exaggerate the side effects of Depranil Plus tablets.
  • Do not use this tablet with other medicines that cause sedation and drowsiness, like tranquillisers, narcotic pain relievers, muscle relaxants, etc.
  • Some other medicines that can react with Depranil Plus tablets are:
  • Blood thinners (warfarin)
