Consium 100Mg Injection

• Brain tumours, including glioblastoma, brainstem glioma, medulloblastoma, astrocytoma and ependymoma, and cancer that has spread to the brain from elsewhere in the body
• Multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow, given along with prednisone
• Hodgkin lymphoma that has come back after treatment or has stopped responding to it, given along with other anti-cancer medicines
• Non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has come back after treatment or has stopped responding to it, given along with other anti-cancer medicines

• Known allergy (hypersensitivity) to carmustine or any other ingredient of this medicine.
• Pregnancy, breastfeeding, low blood counts, kidney disease, and other medical conditions require special precautions and medical assessment.

• Delayed suppression of bone marrow function (fall in blood cell counts)
• Nausea and vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Lung toxicity, including pneumonitis
• Kidney toxicity
• Dizziness and headache
• Low blood pressure with high-dose therapy
• Vein inflammation (phlebitis)
• Injection-site pain, burning or inflammation
• Temporary skin darkening if the medicine accidentally contacts the skin.

• Constipation, diarrhoea
• Mouth and lip inflammation
• Anaemia
• Hair loss
• Skin flushing
• Reversible changes in liver blood tests
• Reactions at the injection site

• Severe allergic reaction
• Infection and bone marrow suppression
• Severe or delayed lung toxicity
• Kidney problems
• Seizures
• Fast heartbeat
• Chest pain
• Severe or persistent nausea and vomiting
• Unusual bleeding or bruising due to low blood counts
• It can also increase the long-term risk of secondary cancers, including acute leukaemia.

• Store the Consium injection as directed by the product label.
• Do not dispose of medicines down the sink or in household waste; ask your doctor how to dispose of any unused medicine safely to help protect the environment.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children and pets at all times.

• Never take Consium injection without ongoing medical supervision.
• Attend regular blood tests as advised by your doctor to monitor blood counts.
• Contact your doctor immediately if you develop breathlessness, a persistent dry cough, fever, unusual bruising or bleeding, or signs of infection.
• Report any new or worsening breathing problems promptly because lung toxicity can be serious and may occur during or after treatment.
• Avoid pregnancy during treatment.
• Do not breastfeed during treatment.
• Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking before starting the treatment.
• Report any signs of a lung problem to your doctor promptly.
• Check with your doctor before driving or operating machinery, as the alcohol content of the diluent and possible dizziness may affect your ability to do so safely.

Missed a Dose

• Missing a dose of Consium injection may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. You are unlikely to miss a dose, as the medicine is given at the hospital.
• However, if you have missed any dose of this injection, inform your doctor or nurse immediately. Your doctor will decide when to reschedule treatment.

Overdose

• No specific antidote is available for Consium injection overdose. As Consium injection is always given by a doctor or nurse in a clinical setting, the risk of receiving an incorrect dose is very low.
• If an overdose is suspected, urgent medical attention is required. Treatment is supportive and includes close monitoring of blood counts and organ function.

Interactions with other medicines

• Medicines that suppress the bone marrow: Combining Consium injection with other medicines that lower blood cell counts can increase the risk of severe myelosuppression, infection and bleeding.
• Cimetidine: May increase bone marrow suppression when used with Consium injection.
• Phenobarbital: May increase the breakdown of Consium injection and potentially reduce its effectiveness.
• Phenytoin: Consium injection may reduce the effectiveness of phenytoin and affect seizure control.
• Tell your doctor about every prescription medicine, over-the-counter medicine, vitamin, supplement, and herbal product you are taking before starting Consium injection.
