- As per CDSCO, Clopixol Acuphase injection can be used to treat:
- Schizophrenia
- Psychotic disorder
Contraindications
- Do not take Clopixol Acuphase injection, or use caution:
- If you are allergic to any component of Clopixol Acuphase injection, i.e. Zuclopenthixol.
- If you have sudden mood changes or experience suicidal ideation.
- If you have a thyroid disorder.
- If you have Parkinson’s disease or dementia.
- If you have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness).
- If you have heart disease.
- If you have low blood pressure (hypotension).
- If you have prostate or bladder problems.
- If you have kidney or liver problems.
- If you have respiratory issues.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

- You have any allergic reactions after taking the Clopixol Acuphase injection.

- You have mild or severe liver and kidney disease; this medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You have withdrawal symptoms like tremors, sweating, agitation, nausea, and confusion.
- You are using Ayurvedic medicines, vitamins, and other health supplements.

- Clopixol Acuphase injection should be administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Many medicines can interact with Clopixol Acuphase injection, making it less effective or increasing its side effects. Some examples are listed below:
- Concomitant use of Clopixol Acuphase injection with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants (alprazolam, diazepam, and clonazepam) and other opioids (codeine and morphine) is strictly contraindicated. It may cause respiratory depression, coma, and even death.
- Clopixol Acuphase injection should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, selegiline, rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening.
- Clopixol Acuphase injection interaction with blood-pressure-lowering medicine, such as amlodipine, lisinopril, losartan, and metoprolol, can lead to extremely low blood pressure.
- Clopixol Acuphase injection interaction with painkillers like morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, tramadol, and codeine may cause more sedation and drowsiness. Clopixol Acuphase injection interaction with anti-Parkinson’s medicines like levodopa may reduce the effects of levodopa.
- Clopixol Acuphase injection interaction with antidepressants or mood-elevating medicines like fluoxetine and desipramine leads to increased blood levels of trifluoperazine and causes increased side effects.
- Clopixol Acuphase injection interaction with antifungal medications like itraconazole and ketoconazole can reduce its effects.
