Alfunol D Strip Of 10 Tablets
Description
Alfunol D 10mg/0.5mg Tablet is a medicine used in men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland, a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). When the prostate becomes enlarged, it can press against the bladder and cause problems with urination. This medicine helps relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder, making it easier to pass urine and relieving discomfort.
It contains two active ingredients, alfuzosin and dutasteride. Alfuzosin helps relax the muscles in the bladder and prostate, improving urine flow and reducing the need to urinate frequently, especially at night. Dutasteride helps by reducing the size of the enlarged prostate over time, preventing further worsening of symptoms.
You should take Alfunol D 10mg/0.5mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your body. Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as your symptoms may return or worsen.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems. Also, inform your doctor about all the other medicines you are taking. This medicine is meant only for men and should not be used by women or children. If you notice dizziness or lightheadedness, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position.
Regular medical check-ups may be advised by your doctor to monitor your prostate health and ensure the medicine is working effectively. It is also important to follow a healthy lifestyle, stay physically active, and avoid holding urine for long periods.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Alfuzosin works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder neck, making it easier to pass urine. This helps relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate, such as difficulty starting urination, weak urine flow, and frequent or urgent need to urinate, especially at night....
- Dutasteride works by blocking the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into another hormone that causes the prostate to grow. By reducing the levels of this hormone, dutasteride helps shrink the enlarged prostate, improve urine flow, and relieve symptoms like frequent or difficult urination....
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Do not take this medicine together with other alpha-blockers, as it can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
- Avoid using strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, clarithromycin, telithromycin, nefazodone, or protease inhibitors (such as ritonavir or indinavir), as they can increase the levels of alfuzosin or dutasteride in your blood....
- Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for high blood pressure, as using them together can cause your blood pressure to drop too low.
- Use caution if you are taking nitrates (used for chest pain), as they can increase the risk of dizziness or fainting when combined.
- If you are scheduled for surgery with general anaesthesia, stop this medicine 24 hours before, as it can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure during the procedure.
- Medicines like verapamil or diltiazem can increase dutasteride levels slightly, but your doctor will monitor you for any side effects.
- Long-term use with potent enzyme blockers (like ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, or nefazodone) may increase dutasteride levels in your body; your doctor may adjust your dose if side effects occur....
- Cholestyramine taken one hour after dutasteride does not affect how dutasteride works or is absorbed.
- Dutasteride does not interact with medicines such as warfarin or digoxin, and it is unlikely to affect how most other medicines are metabolized in the body.
Interactions with food items
- Alfunol D 10mg/0.5mg Tablet can be taken with or after food to reduce the chance of stomach upset.
- Avoid drinking excessive alcohol as it can increase dizziness or make you feel faint.
- There are no specific food restrictions, but eating a balanced diet supports overall prostate health.
- Limit caffeine-containing drinks like coffee or tea, as they can increase the urge to urinate.
- Stay hydrated, but try to avoid drinking too much water close to bedtime to reduce nighttime urination.
