Tianeptine belongs to the class of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer (SSRE, a hormone in the human body), used primarily in the treatment of major depressive disorder and certain other conditions.
Uses
This medicine is used to treat certain conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, asthma, severe depressive episodes, anxiety disorders including panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, as an anticonvulsant and analgesic.
Contraindications
When should one not use Tianeptine
- Allergic reaction to the medicine
- Recently on medication with Phenelzine, Tranylcypromine or Isocarboxazid
- Children below the age of 18 years

How Does It Work?
This medicine decreases the levels of Serotonin in brain cells, without a decrease in Serotonin release and it was hence called a Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer.
