Clobetasol+Gentamicin
Description
Clobetasol+Gentamicin is a combination medicine. It is used to treat a wide var
iety of bacterial skin infections. Clobetasol belongs to a class of medicines called steroids, whereas Gentamicin belongs to the antibiotics group of medicines. Clobetasol+Gentamicin is available in the form of cream, lotion, ointment. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting this medicine.

Contraindications
When should one not use Clobetasol+Gentamicin
- If you are allergic to clobetasol, gentamicin or similar medicines
- If you have an untreated skin infection or skin thinning problem
- If you have chickenpox, shingles, warts or any other wounds and skin infections
- If you have acne or an infection on your face, around your mouth or private parts
- Clobetasol+Gentamicin should not be used in children below 1 year of age and for nappy rash

Other General Warnings
- You develop infection or superinfection after using this combination
- You develop any allergic reaction after using clobetasol+gentamicin
- You are also applying other topical medicines (cream, ointment, lotion, etc).
- You are suffering from a skin condition called psoriasis
- You develop diarrhoea or stomach cramps
- You have had any allergic reaction to any steroids
- Clobetasol+Gentamicin must not be used for a longer duration without proper medical guidance.
Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Clobetasol is a steroid, which works by blocking the production of certain chemical substances in the body (prostaglandins) which cause itching, swelling and redness.
- Gentamicin is an antibiotic and it works by inhibiting the growth and multiplication of bacteria causing infection.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way clobetasol+gentamicin works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines (including topical medicines), supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- Clobetasol+Gentamicin should be used with caution along with ritonavir (used in HIV infection) and itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections), as it may increase the risk of having side effects.
