Molecule Description

Acebrophylline is used for breathing difficulty associated with lung-related disorders like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It promotes the relaxation of muscles around the airway and inhibits mucous secretion, ultimately unblocking the airway and making the breathing process easier. Acebrophylline is available in the form of tablets, capsules, syrup. Uses

Acebrophylline is used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma.

  • If you have problems with your kidney or liver
  • If you have any heart disease such as low blood pressure, unstable blood pressure or abnormal heart rate

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Acebrophylline causes relaxation of muscles around the airway and inhibits mucous secretion. It inhibits certain enzymes responsible for the production of chemicals that cause swelling. This results in a decrease of swelling responsible for airway obstruction.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some medicines can affect the way acebrophylline works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
  • Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
  • Especially if you are taking medicines to treat gouts such as allopurinol, anti-allergic medicines such as cimetidine, corticosteroids, water pills such as furosemide, isoprenaline, oral contraceptives, antifungals such as thiabendazole, calcium channel blockers such as verapamil, diltiazem and antibiotic medicines such as doxycycline, amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin.
