Medical Description

Zyfos tablet is an oral corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and allergic reactions in conditions affecting the skin, eyes, lungs, joints, bowel and other body systems. It contains methylprednisolone, a steroid that lowers excessive immune activity and inflammatory swelling. This can reduce redness, pain, itching and swelling when prescribed for an appropriate condition. Zyfos tablet is taken by mouth as directed and should not be stopped suddenly after regular use because the body may need a gradual reduction.

  • Rheumatic disorders: Joint and connective-tissue inflammation can cause pain and stiffness; this medicine may improve movement by calming the flare.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Zyfos tablet is not recommended during pregnancy unless a doctor decides the benefit outweighs possible fetal risk. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Methylprednisolone may pass into breast milk. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding so the need for treatment and monitoring can be assessed.

Driving

Driving

Dizziness, visual changes, fatigue or mood changes may affect driving. Do not drive if you are affected.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol if it worsens stomach irritation, dizziness or mood changes, especially with other medicines.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water, with or without food as advised. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet. Take it exactly as prescribed. Do not stop suddenly after regular treatment because the body may need a gradual reduction under medical supervision.

  • Avoid close contact with people who have contagious infections.
  • Tell healthcare professionals that you use a steroid before vaccines or surgery.
  • Monitor blood sugar and blood pressure if your doctor recommends it.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much may cause severe stomach upset, agitation, raised blood sugar, raised blood pressure or worsening infection risk. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Methylprednisolone is a strong steroid that reduces the release of substances responsible for inflammation and allergic reactions. It also lowers excessive immune activity, which can reduce swelling, redness, pain and itching.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Zyfos tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, clarithromycin can increase methylprednisolone exposure. Purified Vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine, inactivated cholera vaccine and recombinant adjuvanted shingles vaccine may produce a weaker immune response, so tell your doctor before vaccination. Also mention medicines for diabetes or blood pressure, anti-inflammatory pain medicines, seizure medicines, blood thinners and other medicines that weaken immunity.

Interactions with food items

Avoid excessive dietary sodium if your doctor advises this, because steroids may worsen fluid retention or blood pressure. No specific food interaction is otherwise established.
