Victoza Pen Injection is an anti-diabetic medicine. It contains Liraglutide as its active ingredient. It is used for controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes along with diet and lifestyle mo
dification. It can be used in individuals above 10 years of age. It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke or death in patients with type 2 diabetes with heart conditions.

Uses of Victoza 6 MG/ML
For the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
To reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke or death in type 2 diabetic patients with heart conditions.

- Victoza has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines. However, you should be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia (sweating excessively, feeling tired, fainting, feeling weak, nervous and anxious). You should always carry a quick-acting source of sugar (such as juice, nondiet soda, hard candy or dextrose tablets)....
Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the Victoza Pen Injection?

- It is not advisable to consume alcohol when you are taking this medicine. Alcohol can reduce your body’s ability to recover from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels).
Other General Warnings
Talk to your doctor if
- You have recurrent low blood sugar levels, be very careful about symptoms of low blood sugar like sweating, anxiety, fast heartbeats, headache, intense hunger, restlessness, dizziness, irritability.
- You experience low blood sugar, immediately have sugar (Do not consume artificial sweeteners). Eat something as soon as possible.
- You are on dialysis, heart failure, liver problem or kidney failure or disease.
- You have a thyroid disorder, thyroid enlargement (Goitre).
- You have a stomach or gut disorder due to which content of your stomach takes too long to pass in the intestine (Gastroparesis).
- You have inflammatory bowel disorder, inflammation of the pancreas (Pancreatitis).
- This medicine should not be used if have type 1 diabetes (your body does not produce any insulin) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes).
- You are experiencing dehydration (the loss of fluid through vomiting or diarrhoea). It is important to avoid dehydration and drink plenty of water.
Mode of Action of Victoza 6 MG/ML
How Does It Work?
- Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body is not able to use insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that enables our body to use glucose for energy. Liraglutide acts by three different mechanisms. It slows down gastric emptying (food leaving from the stomach), helps the pancreas produce more insulin when your blood sugar is high and reduces the formation of too much sugar in the liver....
Directions for Use of Victoza 6 MG/ML
- Take this injection as per the technique suggested by your doctor or nurse.
- This injection is to be taken under the skin of the thigh or upper arm or abdomen.
- Do not take this injection in the vein or in muscles.
- Pull a skin, fold up to take this injection.
- Wait for at least 6 seconds before removing the needle from the site of injection.
- Always rotate the site of injection, do not take concurrent injections at the same site.
Interactions of Victoza 6 MG/ML
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Victoza works or Victoza itself can affect the action of other medicines taken at the same time. Hence, tell your doctor about all the medicines, herbals, supplements you have recently taken, currently taking or might take....
- In particular, if you are taking anticoagulants such as warfarin, frequent monitoring of blood clotting parameters is suggested.
- Blood pressure-lowering medicines such as insulin and sulphonylureas (glimepiride or glibenclamide) may lead to a significant reduction in blood glucose and hence patient should be warned of the signs and symptoms of low blood glucose ( cold sweat, headache, fast heartbeats, feeling sick, tremors)....

Eating a healthy and balanced diet is the key to control blood sugar better. Consult your doctor for more information on what kind of diet you should follow since a diabetes diet is not one size fits all. It varies among individuals depending on the severity of disease and comorbidities....
Storage and disposal of Victoza 6 MG/ML
- Store it between 2°C to 8°C in the refrigerator.
- Do not freeze it.
- Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not open the carton of vials to protect it from light.
- Any unused portion should not be stored and should be appropriately discarded.
Dosage of Victoza 6 MG/ML
Overdose
An overdose of this injection may lead to severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and excessively low blood sugar. If you happen to take too much of this injection inform your doctor immediately or reach out to the nearby hospital. Whether or not you test your levels, it is important to take some glucose water/juice/eat sugar or chocolates immediately and then rush to your doctor....
Missed a Dose
- A missed dose may lead to high blood sugar levels which can cause symptoms like feeling thirsty, excessive urination, loss of appetite, drowsiness, a fruity smell from breath, etc. If you have missed any dose of this medicine take it as soon as you remember If it's time for your next dose then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one as taking a double dose can cause a drastic fall in blood glucose which can be dangerous....

A: Taking injection at the same site may lead to a lump formation, local irritation and itching. Thus it is advisable not to take injections at the same site or maintain a gap of at least one day.
Q: I develop low blood sugar levels often, what could be the possible reasons?
A: The risk factors for developing low blood glucose levels include taking incorrect or excess of this medicine, not taking adequate meals or missing meals, too much alcohol consumption, fever and too much exercise.
Some medicines, when used with Victoza can result in such episodes as other diabetes medicine glimepiride, medicines used for fever and pain (salicylates), ramipril, etc.
Report to your doctor about this if it is happening very often. You may need a dose of adjustment.
