For the treatment of diabetes mellitus. To reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke or death in type 2 diabetic patients with heart conditions.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have recurrent low blood sugar levels, be very careful about symptoms of low blood sugar like sweating, anxiety, fast heartbeats, headache, intense hunger, restlessness, dizziness, irritability.
  • You experience low blood sugar, immediately have sugar (Do not consume artificial sweeteners). Eat something as soon as possible.
  • You are on dialysis, heart failure, liver problem or kidney failure or disease.
  • You have a thyroid disorder, thyroid enlargement (Goitre).
  • You have a stomach or gut disorder due to which content of your stomach takes too long to pass in the intestine (Gastroparesis).
  • You have inflammatory bowel disorder, inflammation of the pancreas (Pancreatitis).
  • This medicine should not be used if have type 1 diabetes (your body does not produce any insulin) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes).
  • You are experiencing dehydration (the loss of fluid through vomiting or diarrhoea). It is important to avoid dehydration and drink plenty of water.

Directions for Use of Victoza 6 MG/ML

  • Take this injection as per the technique suggested by your doctor or nurse.
  • This injection is to be taken under the skin of the thigh or upper arm or abdomen.
  • Do not take this injection in the vein or in muscles.
  • Pull a skin, fold up to take this injection.
  • Wait for at least 6 seconds before removing the needle from the site of injection.
  • Always rotate the site of injection, do not take concurrent injections at the same site.

A: No, you can not stop taking your diabetes medicine without speaking with a doctor. It may lead to high blood sugar levels and may worsen your disease condition and land you in complications. In case of side effects or discomfort, talk to your doctor. You may need a dose adjustment.

Q: Why should I always change the site for taking Victoza Pen Injection?

A: Taking injection at the same site may lead to a lump formation, local irritation and itching. Thus it is advisable not to take injections at the same site or maintain a gap of at least one day.

Q: I develop low blood sugar levels often, what could be the possible reasons?

A: The risk factors for developing low blood glucose levels include taking incorrect or excess of this medicine, not taking adequate meals or missing meals, too much alcohol consumption, fever and too much exercise. Some medicines, when used with Victoza can result in such episodes as other diabetes medicine glimepiride, medicines used for fever and pain (salicylates), ramipril, etc. Report to your doctor about this if it is happening very often. You may need a dose of adjustment.
